Hole in One, Anyone?

WARNING: Do not ignore a small insect bite, you might not know how potent is the bite!

It was a small bite on my right thigh, itchy & red.
I thought it was just a normal bite from an annoying insect & decided to ignore it.
As days passed, the bite became swollen & painful.
I thought it will go away if I just ignored it & applied medication on my own.

Few weeks later, the infected area did not subside & the wound became hard & painful. I finally dragged myself to the GP. According to the GP, I had cyst on my thigh so he advised me to take a week of antibiotics & ointment to apply but the condition did not improve at all. I went to see another GP a few weeks later & was prescribed the same thing. I asked the GP to take out the pus for me since the wound had soften but doctor advised me not to do it.

Just like that, I endured for almost 3 months & the wound became soft. It looked like there's quite a fair bit pus inside the wound so I went to consult the 3rd GP :(
GP immediately advised me to go to A&E immediately to remove the pus. I thought it will just be a small treatment & never expected the doctor to tell me that I have to do a minor day surgery.

She injected some anaesthetic around the area & used a knife to cut a small line across my wound. She used an equipment to dig out all my pus & I think some of my infected flesh (I was screaming & crying in pain inside the operation room). After about 30 minutes of ordeal, I was finally limping my way out of the operation room.

Luckily everything is over now. I was imagining if I have waited a few more weeks or months later, probably the doc might need to amputate my right leg if the condition is beyond cure. Sigh! Anyway, now I just need to go to the polyclinic to change my dressing every alternate day until my wound close up nicely. It still looks very GROSS & I have to live with an ugly thigh for the rest of my life *sulk*.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FEAR FACTOR PICTURES?

Waiting outside of the Operation room with my very infected "smooth" thigh

After 30 minutes of torture, my thigh looked bruised & battered
I was brave enough to take picture of my disfigured thigh after the op, the nurses must be thinking I am crazy :P

Waiting to make payment with a bandaged thigh...

3rd day after the op, took the picture while waiting for the nurse @ the polyclinic to change my dressing. What a big "hole"...any golf enthusiast here? Can play a game of hole in one :)

  11. Oh my gosh! What an ordeal!

I think we mums are sometimes to used to having a high threshold of pain or tolerance for discomfort that we easily ignore stuff like this.

Good to know you managed to keep your leg.
