One of my worries when my children started schooling is to see them fall ill one after another. When they are sick, they have to absent themselves from the school. This is quite stressful to us as parents. So as to prevent them from getting sick so easily, hygiene habits need to start from young.
Bad hygiene habits encouraged bacteria to grow & at the same time lower the immune system in their bodies. Therefore, it is very important to make sure they always remember to keep themselves clean as often as possible so lower down the chances of getting themselves sick too often. As a mother of three active children, I try to remind them to:-
#Bath at least twice a day
Usually I will get them to bath in the morning after they wake up and during the evening before bedtime.
#Trim their fingernails & toenails
Children tend to have the bad habit of biting or chewing their nails. Trim their nails frequently to minimize the risk of having bacteria growing.
#Wash their hands
Especially in the hot & humid weather, we tend to have sweaty palms and children love to touch & feel everything during playtime. Everyday our hands come into contact with millions of bacteria and the more we should clean our hands before mealtime.
We are lucky that children living in Singapore do have the benefit of getting medical attention easily anywhere any time. Imagine other children who are staying in countries that are lacking in hygiene knowledge could lead to more of them getting sick & die from illnesses for not getting immediate medical attention.
Do you know that every year, more than 2 million children don't live to see their 5th birthday due to diseases like Diarrhea and Pneumonia? Many of these deaths can be prevented through the simple habit of regular handwashing with soap.
Let's help a child reach 5, by pledging on LIFEBUOY's Facebook page. With every GHD pledge, LIFEBUOY will commit to teach a child hygiene education through PSI, a Unilever Foundation Partner. Just a click on your part & more children will be able to benefit from the importance of handwashing which can help save the lives of millions of children around the world.
Global Handwashing Day is an initiative by Lifebuoy.
